Two members of the Ghana Team that travelled to Australia for the 2018 Commonwealth Games did not return to Accra, the Badminton Association of Ghana has confirmed. But TV3 Sport understands a third member of the Commonwealth team in weightlifting did not also return. Gifty Mensah and Stella Amasah went missing a day after they were eliminated, according to the Association’s boss Evans Yeboah. There is, however, no word from leadership of the Commonwealth team on Ruth Baffoe, who absconded too. Some estimates in fact suggest up to ten members of the Commonwealth team may not have returned to Ghana but badminton is the only association to own up to the issue. “Unfortunately, Stella Amassah and Gifty Mensah were declared missing a day after their competition”, the statement said. “We had activated and adhered to the necessary protocols and procedures of such situations and the Commonwealth Games Federation, the Australia Border Force, The National Security Desk, Interpol, The Ghana High Commission, the Ghanaian Community in Australia, the BWF and the sporting regulators from Ghana have been duly informed and enforcement action under such acts have already begun.” ‘Uncouth’ Describing the pair as uncouth, Yeboah said he hopes they face the full law at some point. “At the barest least, when found, they will be prosecuted per Australian laws and then extradited to Ghana to face Ghanaian law in full force. As your leader, I am vile at this moment and the cause of this depraved and uncouth attitude was completely unnecessary and the Association condemns this act. Internally, at our next Board meeting we will bolster our actions on these characters of dishonourable individuals.” Stella Amasah’s competition ended on Thursday, April 12 after she and mixed doubles partner Emmanuel Donkor were eliminated in the Round of 16. Gifty Mensah and partner Grace Atikapa reached the Round of 32. Source: 3news.com|Ghana ]]>
