The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has rejected calls for Accra Sports Stadium to accommodate more than 25 percent of spectators for the Ghana Premier League clash between Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko on Sunday.
Due to the magnitude of the encounter, there were calls for authorities to soften their stance and allow 70 percent of fans to be allowed into the 40,000-capacity stadium.
But the GFA, following stakeholders meeting, say “25% of admission of spectators will be given access to the stadium as per the permission granted to Ghana Football Association by government to play football in the country.”
“The Super Clash will be played under strict COVID-19 protocols as required by the National COVID-19 Task Force and the GFA Matchday COVID-19 Protocols,” the Association added.
Meanwhile, tickets will go on sale on Friday, June 25 and Saturday, June 26 at selected outlets.
According to the GFA, only persons with tickets will be granted access to go near the stadium by the security personnel to be stationed at the roads leading to the stadium, adding that a joint military and police team will be deployed at vantage roads leading to the Accra Sports Stadium.
This is to avoid overcrowding and mass gathering that could lead to unfortunate incidents, such as fans forcing their way into the stadium like during the Mantse derby between Hearts of Oak and Great Olympics early this month.
This fixture could determine the winner of the league with both Kotoko and Hearts tied on 53 points each.
