The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has triggered Article 14(2) of the Premier League regulations by banning Asante Kotoko temporarily from playing at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium. The decision was taken at a crunch meeting held on Monday, January 13. This follows a mayhem that ensued after Asante Kotoko lost 0-1 to Berekum Chelsea in a Match Day 3 game of the Ghana Premier League. Supporters threw objects onto the pitch in protest against referee Charles Bulu’s seventh minute allowed goal. The supporters of the home side felt cheated by Kofi Owusu’s goal, apparently becoming the match winner. They took their protests outside the stadium after the match and in attempt to disperse them, the police shot one Augustine Opare. He is in stable condition, 3news.com gathered. The police officer who shot at the fan has since been interdicted as investigations have already been launched into the incident. Expressing sadness at the incident, management of Asante Kotoko has laid the blame at the doorstep of the police. “While we vehemently condemn the conduct of any unruly fan, we find it difficult to accept the behaviour of the Police Officer who allegedly shot a fan,” the club said in a statement released on Monday.

By the latest decision by the GFA, the Porcupine Warriors’ next home game – against Ebusua Dwarfs – will be played at a neutral ground. Before then, they will travel to Tarkwa to face Medeama SC on Wednesday, January 15. By Emmanuel Kwame Amoh|3news.com|Ghana ]]>
