Zamalek boss Jose Gomez is brimming with confidence ahead of their CAF Confederation Cup final against RS Beerkane having secured a spot with a win over Dreams FC.

The 2019 champions will trade tackles with RS Berkane who clinched the title in 2020 and 2022 in a mouthwatering encounter.

“I didn’t know of this record. I am happy we have achieved this. I give credit to the collective spirit and efforts of the team. We will try to win the CAF CC,” Jose Gomez.

“We were the best and deserved to win the match and qualify for the final.”

Gomez’s men beat Dreams FC 3-0 effectively ending the fairytale run of the Ghanaian side who have impressed in their debut campaign.

Despite a goalless first leg in the semifinals at the Cairo International Stadium last week seeming to favour the Ghanaians, their home advantage didn’t count as they suffered defeat at the packed Baba Yara stadium in Kumasi on Sunday.

Tunisian defender Hamza Mathlouti opened the scoring for Zamalek in the 12th minute, capitaliaing on a precise pass from Zizo. The visitors doubled their lead in the 27th minute, with Samson Akinyoola converting Mostafa Shalaby’s pass to extend their advantage.

Despite Dreams FC’s efforts, Zamalek maintained control, with Shalaby sealing the victory just before the hour mark. The experience of the Egyptian side proved crucial in securing their place in the final.

Although Dreams FC held Zamalek to a goalless draw in the first leg, their opponents’ dominance in the second leg resulted in a 3-0 defeat.

Looking ahead, Zamalek are hoping to repeat their triumph five years ago when they beat the same opponents to win their first and only Confederation Cup trophy.
