The sand in the hour class looks to be running out for the head coaches of Ghana’s two biggest clubs Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. Prosper Narteh Ogum and Aboubakar Ouattara, are under severe scrutiny amid an underwhelming campaign in the Ghanaian top flight.

Prosper Ogum has supervised Asante Kotoko’s downward spiral while Abubakar Ouattara has failed to halt Hearts of Oak’s downward trajectory. Thankfully, his team has bounced back with a remarkable victory over Karela United but that is far from enough from the fans’ perspective.

Both teams sit in unfamiliar territory on the league table far off the chasing pack as they struggle for form and consistency this season.

Ogum’s first season with Kotoko, is one to remember. He guided the Porcupine Warriors to clinch the Ghana Premier League in the 2021/22 season.

But the manner in which his team has performed in the 2023/24 season might prove to be the end in sight and bring his time in Kumasi to an end.

Kotoko’s 2-1 defeat at home to Nsoatreman on Thursday night epitomises the team’s struggles this season, casting doubt over his future.

Kotoko have lost their last four home matches, and hold the record for the team with the poorest home form.

Their recent loss has sparked a wave of anger and concern within the group with calls for Prosper Narteh Ogum to be axed from his role.

Kotoko have lost seven out of nine matches and their next three games don’t come easy amid trips to Dreams FC and champions Medeama, sandwiched by a home tie against league leaders Samartex.
