Former Black Stars winger Laryea Kingston has been named as the head coach of the Black Starlets, Ghana’s U-17 national team.

Kingston previously served as an assistant coach of the team under Abdul Karim Zito following their appointment in December 2022.

Now, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has entrusted Kingston with the leadership of the U-17 team, succeeding Zito in the role.

Kingson, who earned 42 caps for Ghana and represented the nation in two Africa Cup of Nations tournaments in 2006 and 2008, will be supported by former Hearts of Oak captain Jacob Nettey and Nana Agyemang, both of whom bring valuable experience to the coaching setup.

Nettey, a former captain of Hearts of Oak, boasts an illustrious career that includes leading the team to victory in the CAF Champions League in 2000.

He also represented Ghana in various international competitions, including the Africa Cup of Nations and the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, USA.

The newly appointed technical team has been tasked with assembling a strong squad for upcoming tournaments, including the WAFU B U-17 Cup of Nations in Accra 2024 and the Africa Cup of Nations.

With Kingson at the helm and a team of experienced coaches by his side, Ghana aims to build a formidable U-17 squad capable of competing at the highest level of African youth football.
