Former Ghana President John Agyekum Kufuor has unveiled the JA Kufuor Cup trophy, which will be contested by Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman at the Baba Yara Stadium on February 18, 2024.

The match is part of the JAK Foundation’s efforts to honour the former President’s legacy and mark his 85th birthday.

During a brief ceremony at his residence, the former president expressed his gratitude for the honour done him.

“Ladies and gentlemen, I’m a bit surprised by this occasion. I should say perhaps not so much surprised as overwhelmed and overjoyed because I really didn’t expect this thing,” he said.

Ex-Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah, who qualified Ghana to its first World Cup, has accepted the ambassadorial role for the special game. “I remember when I was the captain of the senior national team, he was the president and he showed us so much love and respect. Anything he does in terms of football, I can’t say no,” Appiah stated.

Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku urged everyone to come together to celebrate the former president on Sunday.

“It’s important for all of us in football and out of football to be at the stadium on Sunday to say thank you to a man who gave us all for association football. I’m happy to contribute towards the game, and I think he deserves more than that.”

Asante Kotoko and Nsoatreman, the two clubs participating in the game, have promised to deliver an exciting match.

The proceeds from the tournament will go towards funding the educational needs of 3000 brilliant but needy students through the JA Kufuor Foundation.
