Tensions ran high at the training grounds of Kotoko, Adako Jachie on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 as disgruntled fans stormed the premises, demanding the removal of coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum and his coaching staff.

The protest comes amidst the team’s dismal performance in the ongoing Ghana Premier League season, with Kotoko suffering seven defeats in their last nine games.

The frustrated fans, expressing their dissatisfaction with the team’s recent results, blocked coach Ogum and his players from proceeding with training.

Kotoko’s poor form has seen them pick just one point from their last seven matches, leaving them dangerously close to the relegation zone. Currently occupying 11th place, this marks their worst-ever run in the Ghanaian top flight.

Efforts by the head of the Interim Management Committee (IMC), Nana Appiah Apinkra, to pacify the fans proved futile, as they remained resolute in their demand for a change in the coaching staff. Consequently, the training session was disrupted, plunging the club into uncertainty.

In response to the escalating crisis, the club’s Life Patron and owner, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is reported to have called for an emergency meeting scheduled for Thursday. This meeting will bring together all stakeholders, including the playing body, technical team, management, and supporters’ heads, to address the club’s current challenges and chart a path towards redemption.

Coach Ogum, who previously guided Kotoko to Ghana Premier League glory in the 2021/22 season, returned to the helm amidst optimism.

Despite a promising start to the 2023/24 season, where Kotoko climbed to third place at the end of the thifirstrd round, the team’s inability to maintain momentum in the second round has resulted in their current predicament, much to the dismay of the fans.

The outcome of Thursday’s emergency meeting holds significance for Kotoko as they seek to navigate through this turbulent period and regain their winning ways in the Ghana Premier League.
