Asante Kotoko midfielder Justice Blay has officially extended his contract with the club, ensuring his presence until January 2025, as confirmed by the club’s announcement today.

This decision follows recent speculations surrounding the player’s future, which the club vehemently dismissed in a move that has delighted fans.

Blay, 31, whose current contract was set to expire at the end of the month, has now inked a deal that includes a one-year extension with an option to renew for an additional year. The Porcupine Warriors expressed their commitment to retaining the services of the former Medeama midfield dynamo despite earlier reports suggesting otherwise.

Initially joining Kotoko on loan for the 2019-2020 season, Blay quickly established himself as a key player, making 25 appearances, scoring two goals, and providing three assists. Blay later secured a permanent transfer in 2022 and has had his share of injuries despite his significance.

Since then, the former Black Galaxies midfielder has made a total of 49 appearances, contributing significantly to Kotoko’s success, including clinching the Premier League title.

The player expressed his joy at the contract extension, saying, “I am happy to have renewed my stay. Kotoko means everything to me and my family. I appreciate the support of everyone in the club, the head coach, and the entire management team. And like I have done before in the past, I will continue to do even better,” in a statement to the club’s media.

With Blay’s future secured, Kotoko are now poised to intensify their bid for the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League title. The team currently hold the third position with 29 points after 17 games, and fans are optimistic about the midfielder’s continued contributions on the field.
