The dismissal of Chris Hughton as Black Stars coach has sparked controversy, with some arguing that the decision was hasty and unfair.
Hughton was let go after Ghana’s poor performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament, where the team failed to advance beyond the group stage.
Francis Oti-Akenteng, a former technical director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), is one of those who feel that the GFA should have waited for the technical report from the tournament before deciding on Hughton’s future.
In an interview with Skyy Power FM, Oti-Akenteng said, “The Ghana Football Association (GFA) should not have sacked former Black Stars coach, Chris Hughton, and the technical team after the Africa Cup of Nations. They should have waited for their report to know why the team did not perform.”
Despite Oti-Akenteng’s criticism, the GFA has already begun the process of finding a replacement for Hughton.
The five-member search committee tasked with recommending a new coach for the Black Stars has submitted their report to the GFA Executive Council.
The council is expected to decide on the next coach in the coming days, based on the committee’s findings and recommendations.
