Dreams FC coach Abdul Karim Zito has credited his team’s surprising game plan for their impressive performance against Zamalek in the CAF Confederation Cup semi-final first leg.

Despite being considered underdogs, Dreams FC managed to hold Zamalek to a goalless draw at the Cairo International Stadium on Sunday.

The Ghana FA Cup champions displayed resilience and determination to tame the White Knights in front of a boisterous crowd.

Zito revealed that Zamalek were taken aback by their performance, considering Dreams FC’s position in the league.

“They were surprised by our performance levels. When you look at our position in the league, it will give you a different impression about Dreams. They saw us as small boys but before they realized, they had to push and push but could not get it,” Zito told JoySports.

Looking ahead to the return leg, Zito plans to change their pattern of play to ensure a positive result. “We will not sit back like we did in the first leg because a 1-0 scoreline may not be ideal. We will both have chances but the advantage we have is that we are playing at home,” he stated.

The return leg will take place at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, with Dreams FC aiming to reach the final of the competition.

If successful, it will mark a historic achievement for the club, extending their record as the first Ghanaian side to reach the semi-finals of the CAF Confederation Cup since 2004.

The last time this milestone was achieved, Hearts of Oak and Kotoko faced off in an all-Ghana final, with the Phobians emerging victorious.

Dreams FC’s journey in the competition has been remarkable  having exceeded expectations despite it being their debut season.

After clinching the FA Cup title, they have defied the odds prevailing in every stage including the preliminary level where they edged, Milo FC and Kallon FC.
