Bayern Munich faced a major setback in the Bundesliga, dropping points against Freiburg.

The hosts took the lead with a spectacular 20-yard strike from Christian Gunter. Although Bayern appeared to mount a comeback with Mathys Tel’s brilliant curling effort and Jamal Musiala’s well-placed shot after a solo run, Freiburg’s Lucas Holer delivered an 87th-minute volley, snatching a crucial point for the hosts.

The Bavarians potentially find themselves 10 points adrift of the league summit by the end of the weekend.

Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel expressed dissatisfaction with his team’s first-half performance, citing a lack of structure, discipline, and positional awareness. Tuchel remarked, “We played recklessly for the first half hour, doing things we’ve never trained or discussed.”

The result leaves Bayern Munich trailing seven points behind the undefeated league leaders, Bayer Leverkusen. Xabi Alonso’s men still have a game in hand against Cologne on Sunday.

This unexpected stumble could mark the end Bayern’s decade-long dominance in German football, having secured 11 consecutive Bundesliga titles.

The disappointing season has also led to the announcement of Tuchel’s departure at the end of the current campaign.

If Bayern fails to overturn their 1-0 deficit against Lazio in the Champions League last-16 second leg on Tuesday, their hopes for silverware this season could be in jeopardy.
