Ghana’s record goal scorer Asamoah Gyan insists that his newly introduced initiative, the All Regional Games will provide the country with the much-needed talent to compete for more medals and silverware in the coming years and improve sports development in the long run for the nation.

Despite his appointment on the NPP sub-committee for Youth and Sports as chairman, his focus lies on sports development and talent discovery, in order to move Ghana forward in the sporting world.

Speaking in an interview with Captain Smart on the Onua Maakye show, Gyan expressed the goal of the All Regional Games, believing it would define Ghana’s sporting strength in the coming years.

All the regions will be participating and we will pick the best talents. So from all the disciplines, we will be looking out for the best in the regions from each discipline. Volleyball, basketball, tennis, Armwrestling, long tennis and table tennis among many others, Basketball, Para-Athletes, Boxing and ESports as well ”, he said.

Gyan launched the All Regional Games initiative on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, and although this multi-discipline is yet to be implemented, is it gaining momentum, and looks set to become a reality.

According to him, the idea to embark on such a project was conceived about a decade ago.

The idea of All Regional Games was borne about 10 years ago. But my struggle was how to implement it. I was still planning throughout the years until I was approached by the team who proposed a great idea,” he revealed.

The Games will begin in November, and each region will be tasked to find their competitors in June to grace the maiden edition.

With this project, Gyan who holds the record as Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances aims to discover talents who would go all the way to reach his level and even beyond.
