Ghana’s potential clash with Argentina is officially off with the 2022 World Cup champions now scheduled to play against Nigeria and Ivory Coast in March.

Initially, speculations were rife that the Black Stars would face off against the football giants in matches set to take place in China. This fueled discussions on social media, with netizens joking about the perceived disparity in quality between the two teams. Many ridiculed the idea of Ghanaian players facing off against the legendary Lionel Messi, an eight-time Ballon d’Or winner.

These comments were sparked by Ghana’s recent disappointing performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where the team failed to secure a single victory, resulting in an early exit during the group stage.

As confirmed by the Argentina FA, the team will rather face Ghana’s West African counterparts who are still active in the ongoing AFCON both reaching the quarter-finals.

Ghana’s underwhelming show led to the dismissal of coach Chris Hughton, and the Ghana Football Association (GFA) subsequently formed a five-member committee to find a new coach for the Black Stars.

The four-time African champions currently face challenges as they prepare for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. The team’s next competitive assignment is in June, where they are scheduled to take on Mali and the Central African Republic.
