The Black Princesses of Ghana have clinched a spot in the semi-finals of the African Games women’s football tournament after a thrilling come-from-behind 2-1 triumph over Tanzania in their second Group A encounter on Tuesday evening at the Cape Coast Stadium.

Ghana, who secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Ethiopia in their opener, faced adversity when Hasnath Ubamba put Tanzania in the lead after 23 minutes.

However, their resilience shone through as Tracey Twum equalized with a brilliant header just before halftime, and Mukarama Abdulai edged Ghana ahead in the 64th minute after a stellar setup by Ophelia Amponsah.

Afi Amenyeku’s heroic save in the 85th minute thwarted Tanzania’s hopes of an equaliser, preserving Ghana’s hard-earned lead.

Despite a nervy moment caused by a defensive lapse, the Black Princesses held firm until the final whistle, clinching a vital 2-1 win and ascending to the top of Group A with six points.

Next up, Ghana will lock horns with Uganda in their final group stage clash on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium.

With a berth in the semi-finals already secured, the Black Princesses aim to sustain their winning momentum as they brace for the knockout rounds.
