Ghana began their men’s football campaign at the 2023 African Games with a frustrating draw against Congo on Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.

Despite dominating the match and creating numerous chances, the Black Satellites failed to convert their opportunities and were forced to settle for a 0-0 draw.

Coach Desmond Ofei’s U-20 team controlled the contest throughout, with their opponents rarely threatening their goal. However, the Ghanaians were unable to find the back of the net, hitting the post and having a goal disallowed for offside.

While Ofei may be disappointed with the result, there were several positives to take away from the match. Ghana displayed strong possession and impressive build-up play from the back, showcasing their technical abilities.

Although the defence wasn’t significantly tested, the team demonstrated resilience and didn’t appear easily beaten.

Looking ahead, Ghana will aim to bounce back in their next fixture against Gambia on Tuesday, followed by their final group match against Benin three days later.

Meanwhile, the Black Princesses will take to the field on Saturday evening to face Ethiopia at the Cape Coast Stadium in the women’s football.

Ghana is still awaiting its first medal at the African Games, with Egypt currently leading the medal table with 11 medals. However, it’s important to note that it’s still early days in the competition, and Ghana has a strong chance of securing a medal in the coming days.
