Former Hearts of Oak midfielder Benjamin Afutu is travelling to Egypt to seal a transfer to Eastern Company Sporting Club, according to reports.

Afutu will reportedly sign a long-term deal with the newly-promoted top-flight club when he lands in Egypt.

The midfielder who played a crucial role in Hearts of Oak’s double success last season is a free agent.

His contract with the Phobians expired at the end of July and attempts to renew it were unsuccessful.

Hearts were hopeful of reaching an agreement with Afutu so they included him in their Caf Champions League squad.

He was absent when Hearts started on a winning note by beating Guinean side CI Kamsar in a single leg.

Afutu scored eight goals – six with his head – as Hearts of Oak won the Ghana Premier League and MTN FA Cup.
