Spanish midfielder David Silva has announced his retirement following a critical knee injury suffered during Real Sociedad’s pre-season ahead of the new season.
Before joining Real Sociedad in 2020, the 37-year-old spent a decade at City, where he won four Premier League titles while playing over 400 matches.

“Today is a sad day for me,” Silva said on social media.
“Today it is time to say goodbye to what I have dedicated my whole life to. Today it is time to say goodbye to my colleagues, who are like family to me. I will miss you very much.”
Silva joined Real Sociedad in 2020 after leaving Manchester City and was ready to begin his fourth season with the Spanish club. However, after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament injury during a pre-season training session, he has decided to hang his boots.

He also played for other Spanish outfits including Eibar and Celta Vigo. Having played 125 times for La Roja, Silva won the World Cup with Spain and also formed but of the teams that won back-to-back European Championships in 2008 and 2012.
