Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has praised Jordan Ayew for his recent performances, which have been instrumental in the Eagles’ impressive form under the English boss.

Palace secured their third straight victory under Hodgson with a 2-0 win against Southampton over the weekend. Hodgson returned to the club after the sacking of Patrick Vieira, under whom Palace failed to win a game in 2023.

Ayew has been a standout player for Palace in recent weeks, contributing two goals and two assists in the last three games. Hodgson believes that the Ghanaian forward is repaying the club’s faith in him.

“He knows us, we know him, he feels comfortable with what we are asking him to do,” said Hodgson after the Southampton win. “He knows we will back him up and get behind him, and he is repaying us by playing so well.”

Ayew’s excellent form has been rewarded with a one-year contract extension, which will keep him at the club until at least 2024. In an interview with London News, Ayew expressed his delight at signing the new deal.

“I am glad with the new deal. I’ve been here for nearly five years and it has not always been easy. I just keep going and believe in what I can do,” said the 31-year-old forward, who joined Palace from Swansea City.

Ayew has made 167 appearances for Palace, scoring 18 goals so far. With their current form, Palace are increasingly likely to finish in the top half of the table, and Ayew’s contributions will be vital in their bid to maintain their impressive form.
