CAF has confirmed that its President, Ahmad Ahmad, is serving a convalescence period and will be out for sometime, making way for first Vice-President Omari Constant to step in as the President on the interim per the statutes governing the Confederation.
The Confederation of African Football disclosed that Ahmad Ahmad will be out for at least 20 days to come back stronger and take his position.
“On medical advice, the President of the Confederation of African Football Mr Ahmad Ahmad, has been prescribed a convalescence period which will last at least 20 days during which he is requested to limit his efforts so as to totally restore his energy.”
His unavailability will mean that he can’t perform his duties, which require strong health as the President of the Association.
Mr Omari Constant will take the interim lead of the CAF executive until November 30, 2020.
This decision is set out in Article 24 paragraph 8 of the statute, which states that “If the President is absent or temporarily unavailable, the first Vice-President shall deputize”.
CAF will hold Presidential elections in March, 2021.
