Ghana Football Association (GFA) president Kurt Okraku has admitted that coaching and refereeing are the two major problems hunting Ghana football.

He made the remarks during the 29th GFA Ordinary Congress at the Great Hall of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi.

The current administration have received a number of complaints about the performances of referees while many football fans have taken matters into their own hands by attacking these officials.

The various national teams have also seen numerous changes in technical teams due to unsatisfied performances which has resulted in the recent poor results for various national teams.

The Black Stars for instance have seen Kwesi Appiah, C.K Ackonnor, Milovan Rajevac, Otto Addo and Chris Hughton as coaches in less than four years.

While acknowledging the issues, the GFA boss pledged to solve the issues while calling upon retired Ghana internationals to engage in coaching jobs to help curb the issue.

“I have already said that the biggest problems facing our game are coaching and refereeing. We have big coaching problems in Ghana,” he said.

“But we are committed to fixing this problem. Most importantly, we want to encourage our heroes, our ex-national team players, to be interested in coaching.

“[There] will be a 50% discount on all payments relating to the acquisition of coaching licenses by our ex-national team players.

“The solution to our football problems is not to forge documents and defame people. If you are interested in leading football, then speak football.”
