Black Stars head coach Charles Kwabla Akonnor has been sacked.

Akonnor, who previously captained the senior national men’s soccer team, was appointed head coach in January 2020 following the departure of James Kwasi Appiah.

He was Appiah’s assistant in his last three months before he was sacked.

After 20 months in charge, the Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken a decision to terminate his appointment.

He managed 10 games with the last being a 0-1 loss to the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a Group G 2022 World Cup qualifier.

Akonnor was sacked together with his two assistants including David Duncan.

The Executive Council of the Ghana FA has formed a three-member committee made up of Vice President Mark Addo, Upper East Regional Football Association Chairman Alhaji Salifu Zida and Randy Abbey to find a Head Coach and Assistant Coaches for the Black Stars within the next 72 hours.
