Ghana coach Chris Hughton issued an apology after his side were thrashed 4-0 by USA in an international friendly on Tuesday night in Tennesse.

The match against the USA revealed several weaknesses in the Black Stars’ performance, and Hughton acknowledged the team’s shortcomings. He expressed his regret for the disappointing result, taking responsibility as the head coach.

“I apologise for the performance for the performance and the results,” Hughton said at a post-match press conference.

The defeat against the USA follows a previous 2-0 loss to Mexico during this international break, raising questions about Ghana’s recent performances under Hughton’s leadership.

The pressure is mounting on the coach as critics question his suitability for the role, especially in the face of stronger opposition in these international friendlies.

Hughton is now looking ahead to the next international break in November, where the Black Stars are scheduled to play two crucial World Cup qualifiers against Madagascar and Comoros.

These matches will provide an opportunity for Ghana to regroup and work on improving their performance before the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in January next year. Black Stars are predicted to qualify from their group that contains record holders Egypt, Cape Verde and Mozambique.
