Mohammed Kudus’ agent has revealed that Chelsea were on the verge of signing the talented attacking midfielder during the summer transfer window, however, the deal eventually fell through because the Blues made what the agent described as a “ridiculous” transfer fee offer to Ajax.

The Ghana star was a highly sought-after player after delivering impressive performances for Ajax last season, where he scored 11 goals and provided four assists in the Eredivisie, with Chelsea, along with other top clubs, expressing interest in signing Kudus.

Jen Mendelewitsch, Kudus’ agent, disclosed that an agreement had been reached with Chelsea, and the contract with Chelsea was agreed upon. However, the deal fell apart after Chelsea offered just €20 million for the player and then refused to improve their bid. As a result, Kudus decided to join West Ham in a deal worth €43 million from the Dutch giants.

“We reached an agreement with Chelsea, we agreed the contract with Chelsea but the deal was not done,” Mendelewitsch explained to RMC Sport.

“He talked with the coach but in the end, it didn’t happen because Chelsea made a ridiculous offer to Ajax.”

“There was no counteroffer. Chelsea did this with lots of players this summer, making very low offers to clubs knowing that they would not be accepted.”

“The truth is that they were completely focused on the transfer of (Moises) Caicedo which took up all their energy,” he added.

Since joining West Ham, the 23-year-old has made five substitute appearances in the top flight and scored a late equaliser in a recent game against Newcastle before the international break.
