The former Ghana midfielder has travelled to six cities across the country already in search of one Ghanaian player to join the Africa XI that will face Chelsea legend later in the year. Kingston, the chief technical person on the project, has picked 12 players already after what he called “very successful” trials in Wa, Bolga, Tamale, Sunyani, Takoradi and Cape Coast. “It has gone very well and I am amazed by what I saw,” Kingston says. “There has been a lot of enthusiasm with people coming with their kids, brothers and players from all over. And the talent level has been very good.” Kingston has picked two players from every venue and has 12 of them penciled down for the grand final itself later in July. “What those trips have thought me is that Ghana will get a worth player to join Africa XI,” he says. “We have picked the players by looking at their skill level, ball control, passing plus endurance because they say hard work beats talent. I have struggled to choose players in many places.” Kingston has been on the move again, travelling to Koforidua and Ho. He will then hold a two-day trial in Kumasi this weekend before returning to wrap up the extensive nationwide search next week in Accra later. “I am convinced by one thing; at the end of the day we will pick a player who will do Ghana proud. I have seen the players on my rounds and the quality just wows me.” The Ghanaian winner will join nine players from 10 other African countries to be part of Africa XI that will face Chelsea legends later on in the year.
