The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has imposed a three-match ban on Black Stars striker Benjamin Tetteh after he was found guilty of assaulting a Gabonese player.
After the 1-1 draw between Ghana and Gabon on Friday, January 14 in the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, a scuffle broke out between the players of the two sides, an incident that saw Tetteh hit Gabonese player Andre Poko.
He was shown a red card, in absentia, by Algerian official Lahlou Benbraham.
At its sitting on Saturday, January 15, the CAF Disciplinary Board upheld the red card decision by the referee, suspending the Turkey-based player for two automatic matches.
The Board added one game to the automatic ban.
“Consequently, the player has been suspended for three matches,” a statement from CAF said.
“The Disciplinary Board has also issued a stern warning to both teams for their unsportsmanship behaviour after referees’ full time whistle.”
Meanwhile, a decision by referee Janny Sikazwe to send off Mali’s Bilal Toure in the 1-0 win over Tunisia was upheld by the Board.
“Consequently, Bilal Toure is suspended for two matches.”
