Algerian side ES Setif beat Asante Kotoko 2-1 in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup play-off round in Accra.

Kotoko new head coach Abdulai Gazale made one change to the team that defeated Karela United in Ayinase a week ago. Christopher Nettey replaced Samuel Frimpong at right back.

The first half failed to produce a goal despite both teams creating chances and coming close to score.

Red-hot Kwame Opoku opened the scoring for Asante Kotoko in the second half. He pounced on Emmanuel Gyamfi’s pass in the Setif 18-yard box to hand the Porcupine Warriors the opener.

Asante Kotoko’s celebration was cut short by ES Setif. Mohamed Amoura scored 5 minutes after Kotoko had taken the lead. The attacker headed home from a cross.

ES Setif grew in confidence after the equalizer and started dominating the game.

They took the lead on the 80th minutes through Ahmed Kendouci who connected to a cross from the right hand side of the Kotoko defense.

ES Setif will go into the return leg at home as the favorite to qualify to the group stage of the 2020-2021 CAF Confederation Cup.
