Black Stars team manager Ameenu Shardow has stated reasons for the delay in releasing Ghana’s squad for their crucial encounter against the Central African Republic.

The much-anticipated match which wraps up the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying series for Ghana is set to take place on Thursday, September 7 at the Baba Yara Stadium. However, there has been no update on the team that will be put together for the crucial task, raising concerns among many Ghanaians.

While acknowledging the issues, Shardow goes on to say that the technical staff, under the leadership of Chris Hughton, are striving to finalize the squad despite “peculiar challenges with some players.”

“I appreciate the concern being expressed. Normally, a week before a crucial game such as the one we are going to have next week, we should have the list by now. Normally, that’s how it’s supposed to be but there are some peculiar challenges being faced by the technical team and they are trying to finalise everything,” he told Citi FM.

“The squad was supposed to have been out by now, yes, but like I told you there are some peculiar challenges with some of the players. I can’t go beyond what I have told you I am not authorised to go into details.”

Meanwhile, Ghana’s opponents, CAR released their squad on Friday in a bid to intensify preparations for the crucial encounter as they equally target qualification.

With nine points, Ghana are the group’s top-placed team and are one point ahead of second-placed Angola. With two spots up for grabs, CAR are in third place with seven points ahead of the important match, indicating that in order to advance to the tournament set to be held in Ivory Coast next year, they must win by any means necessary while Ghana must avoid defeat to do so.
