Black Stars duo Abdul Baba Rahman and Gideon Mensah have been ruled out ahead of Ghana’s international friendly match against Liberia.

Both players were involved in Ghana’s crucial victory over the Central African Republic (CAR) in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers but injuries have unfortunately forced them to be sidelined in the next game.

Baba Rahman was named in the starting XI for the game but his involvement was cut short when he picked up an injury during the match, leading to his substitution in the 69th minute at the Baba Yara Stadium as Gideon Mensah replaced him.

The injury setbacks have prompted the Black Stars coaching staff to turn to Fatawu Hamidu as a worthy replacement.

Hamidu, who plied his trade with Accra Lions before joining Medeama FC last season has been a standout performer for the Tarkwa-based side. His contributions were instrumental in helping Medeama FC clinch the Ghana Premier League title.

The 24-year-old who joins his teammate Jonathan Sowah is expected to make his debut for Ghana on Tuesday when they face the Lone Stars in a high-profile international friendly match as coach Chris Hughton aims to offer fringe players opportunities to showcase their talent.

The Black Stars will play two additional friendlies against Mexico and the USA in October as they gear up for the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches which begins in November.

The match against Liberia will come off at the Accra Sports Stadium at exactly 4 pm.
