Legal practitioner and CAF Match Commissioner Naa Odofoley Nortey has urged men to support women in sports in order to encourage more women to take up leadership roles in the industry.

Nortey, a member of the defunct Ghana Football Association Normalisation Committee, shared this at the 3rd edition of the Africa Women’s Sports Summit at the Accra International Conference Centre on Tuesday.

She said, “There are many good examples of women in leadership in Ghana. [To] men, let’s come together. Support us. Don’t be afraid of us. Respect us.”

“[The problem] is how we are brought up. It is our society. Women are afraid that they will be perceived in a certain way.”

Nortey is among a top lineup of speakers impacting knowledge into the younger generation.

Other guests are the Chief Executive of Tanzania giants Simba SC, Barbara Gonzalez, and a leading SuperSport TV broadcaster Thato Moeng.

Her Excellency Hajia Samira Bawumiah, the Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, was the special guest of honour for this year’s event.

The Africa Women’s Sports Summit, founded by sports journalist Juliet Bawuah, is a global platform for mentorship, training and championing greater female inclusion in the African sports space.
