Ghanaian long jump gold medalist Cadman Evans Yamoah has revealed his admiration and inspiration for football legend Cristiano Ronaldo.

Yamoah, who clinched the gold medal at the 2023 African Games in Accra with a new personal record of 2.23 meters, jubilated with the famous ‘siuuu’ celebration, a trademark of the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Yamoah disclosed that he chose Ronaldo’s famous “siuuu” celebration to honour his idol after his victory. He explained that Ronaldo’s celebration is known for energising the crowd, and as Ronaldo is his idol, it was a natural choice for him.

“In the world of football, if you want a celebration that gets the crowd going, the siuuu celebration is one of the best,” he said in an interview with Joy Sports.

“So when I got up from the mat and started swinging my index finger in the air, the only thing that came to mind was to get the crowd cheering, and Ronaldo is my idol, so he was the only one that I could think of.”

Yamoah emphasised Ronaldo’s influence on him, highlighting the football star’s exceptional work ethic and a team-oriented mindset.

“Cristiano Ronaldo has a significant impact on me,” he admitted.

“His work ethic is among the best. This is a guy who doesn’t focus on himself, but he wants his team to succeed, as we’ve seen in so many of his games.”

The Ghanaian is aiming to earn a spot in this summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.
