The 13th African Games, set to take place in Accra, Ghana, have officially begun with the arrival of the first batch of athletes and officials from various countries.
The Games Village, located on the campus of the University of Ghana in Legon, has welcomed athletes and officials from Algeria, Benin, Congo, Sierra Leone, and Togo.
Algeria has sent a delegation of 40 members, including 22 athletes, five medical personnel, seven officials, and four administrative staff. Benin has arrived with a team of 10, consisting of seven athletes and three officials.
Congo has fielded a single table tennis player, while Sierra Leone has brought three representatives, including two athletes and an official.
Togo has arrived with a contingent of 16 members, composed of nine athletes, two medical doctors, two coaches, and three officials.
Other countries expected to arrive later include Nigeria, South Africa, Uganda, Tunisia, Madagascar, and Eritrea.
The official opening ceremony of the 13th African Games will take place at the newly commissioned University of Ghana Sports Stadium on Friday, March 8, 2024.
The excitement is building as athletes prepare to compete in various sports disciplines, including badminton and table tennis, which kick off on Sunday, March 3.
The Games promise to be an action-packed event, showcasing the best of African sports talent and fostering unity and friendship among participating nations.
