AS Roma striker Felix Afena-Gyan has been sent back to the U19 team as punishment for attending a nightclub with friends.

The 19-year-old missed Roma’s 1-0 win Spezia last Sunday because of a bruised hip but was later spotted at a nightclub that evening, infuriating the coach and technical staff, according to Italian newspaper Gazzetta.

Jose Mourinho has sent him back to the youth team and was spotted training with them on Tuesday.

Afena-Gyan who started the season with the U19 team was invited to train with the first team and he took full advantage of the opportunity as he impressed Mourinho.

He made his first-team debut on October 27 against Cagliari, almost a month later Afena-Gyan came off the bench to score two goals as Roma beat Genoa 2-0.

After the match, Mourinho announced that Afena-Gyan would remain with the first team. In January, Roma registered him for Europa Conference League.

Afena-Gyan has played 14 games for Mourinho’s side.
