Ghana captain Andre Ayew has said new Black Stars players should be willing to die for the team during and after the 2022 World Cup.

Inaki Williams, Tariq Lamptey, Mohammed Salisu, Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer, and Stephen Ambrosius have all joined the four-time African champions ahead of the Qatar tournament later this year, providing a significant boost to the team.

All five are currently in Ghana camp preparing for international friendlies against Brazil and Nicaragua.

With the exception of Salisu, who was born in Ghana, the others were born in Europe to Ghanaian parents.

Ayew has welcomed the five newcomers and urged them to give their all to help the Black Stars succeed.

“I know that some people are saying that they have come because of the World Cup but honestly we will never know [the real motive]. What we know is that these are quality players who can bring something to the squad,” he told Graphic Sport.

“Now, they have decided to come and if they have the right heart, the right determination to die for the team from the first minute to the 90th minute during the World Cup and after the World Cup, we are going to open every door that we have to make them comfortable.”

“First of all, the fact that they considered themselves as Ghanaians and are ready to play for Ghana means they are welcome. We’ll open the door for anybody that can help us to achieve something and for the long term is welcome.

“They should come with the right heart and the right idea and everyone will welcome them into the team.”

The quintet could make their Black Stars debut against Brazil on Friday or against Nicaragua four days later.

Ghana see these friendlies as ideal preparation games ahead of the World Cup in Qatar, where they will come up against Portugal, Uruguay, and South Korea in the group stage.
