Legendary Ghanaian goalkeeper, Ali Jara has said Orlando Pirates shot-stopper, Richard Ofori must be Ghana’s first-choice goalkeeper.

Ofori until his recent injury which ruled him out of the 2022 FIFA World Cup was the first-choice goalkeeper for the Black Stars.

Since returning from the injury, the 30-year-old has been on the bench for Lawrence Ati-Zigi who has kept in almost all the games.

This, Ali Jara, said in an interview with Connect 97.1 FM that Richard Ofori should keep because of his experience.

“Left to me alone, Richard Ofori should be our number one goalkeeper because he is tried and tested, we have tried him and he has understudied our former goalkeepers before becoming our number one goalkeeper.

“When Richard Kingson left, we had a problem with our goalkeeping department and Ofori brought stability.

“Let us not judge the goalkeepers with the friendly games we have played.

“Once we have our number one and he is still around, we have to stop the try and error and bring him in and if he fails to live up to expectations, then we change him,” he said in an interview with Connect 97.1 FM.

The former goalkeeper added that certain decisions might work in other team departments but not in the goalkeeping department because experience is always important for every goalkeeper.

“The goalkeeping department is different from the other department and we always need experience, like someone who can control the back four,”.

Ghana will play Madagascar in their opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup before travelling to go and play Comoros.
