Teenager Felix Afena-Gyan scored two goals that helped AS Roma beat Genoa 2-0 in Serie A on Sunday night.

Roma were struggling badly to create genuine scoring opportunities at a rain-drenched Stadio Luigi Ferraris, until 18-year-old Felix Afena-Gyan came off the bench and made all the difference.

He was making only his third Serie A appearance when he scored both goals for the 2-0 victory, an angled drive and sensational curler into the far top corner.

Afena-Gyan is the first player born after 1/1/2003 to have scored a goal in Serie A, according to Opta.

Also, the Sunyani-born forward is the youngest player able to score 2+ goals in a single match in the Big-5 European Leagues 2021/22.

And the youngest Roma player to score 2+ goals in a single Serie A match in the 3 points for a win era.

Mourinho has made clear that Afena-Gyan would stay with the first team despite being officially registered by U19.

Afena-Gyan was handed his debut Black Stars call-up this month for 2022 World Cup qualifiers against Ethiopia and South Africa but he didn’t show up.

He explained, “I felt it was too early for me to answer the call from the national team because I need to grow, physically but also mentally and psychologically.”

“I also thought it was important for me to stay in Trigoria to accumulate training under [Jose] Mourinho’s orders, to continue improving and growing.
