Angola coach Pedro Goncalves is upbeat ahead of their matchup against Ghana in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers for 2023.

Angola failed to qualify for the 2021 AFCON in Cameroon after exiting the group stage in 2019. They now face the difficult task to re-enter the competition.

The Palancas Negras will travel to Ghana on March 23 for their third qualifying match as they look for their second competitive win against Ghana before hosting the Black Stars later in Luadan four days later.

Coach Pedro Goncalves believes it is still possible to achieve positive results against Ghana despite the pedigree of the four-time African champions.

“They are one of the best teams. I watched their performance and they are strong, they improved so much at the World Cup. They have a lot of very good players, they have more players abroad.

“We are going to face a powerful team in Africa but in our mind, we want to grow, play and challenge ourselves with the big teams.

“This is our mind as we face the Black Stars. Watch out for us, believe that we will face one-on-one and beat the Black Stars,” he told Ghanasportspage.com

Ghana currently top group E with four points with Angola following closely with the same number of points but fewer goals.
