Former Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi has backed Black Stars to excel at the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.

This will be Ghana’s second straight Afcon without Nyantakyi as the head of the country’s football association.

In 2019, a year after Nyantakyi resigned over the controversial Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Number 12 documentary, Black Stars exited the tournament at the round of 16 stage.

It was Ghana’s worst Afcon performance in recent years. During Nyantakyi’s era, Black Stars reached the semi-finals six times in a row and lost two finals.

Sharing his Nations Cup experience on Onua TV on Friday, Nyantakyi said, “I have been at the Africa Cup of Nations [AFCON] several times with the Black Stars and there are tricks that we must take into consideration.”

“Some of the North African countries come to the tournament with their own cook, cleaners among others and when I was in office, we also do the same because Africa is full of surprises.

“This is because nobody wants to be a victim and I think with the Black Stars heading to the AFCON in Cameroon, all this must be taken into consideration.

“I believe the team can make an impact and in doing that, these things must be taken for granted,” he added.

Black Stars will play their first match against Morocco on Monday, January 10 before taking on Gabon and Comoros in the other group games respectively.
