All is set for the grande finale of this year’s ‘Ghana’s Strongest’ competition. It is scheduled to take place at the Jubilee Park in Kumasi come Saturday, August 24. It will be a level-playing field for all four athletes gunning for the ultimate this year. For the first time in four years, there is no Damien Smith in the final. He won it twice in the three appearances and this 2019 edition has four challengers who have all contested in past finals though having never won. Ahmed Boakye, Godfred Akobila, Mustapha Arhin, and Victor Ampofo have all come close in the past but failed to annex the title and the glamorous prizes that accompany it. What is at stake in the final is the cash prize, car, and most importantly, the bragging rights as ‘Ghana’s Strongest’ man. The journey has not been straightforward for the athletes. Usual challenges like the Tyre Flip, Bench Press, Keg Toss, the Squat among others have been witnessed but there have been some new entries too including the Trap Bar Dead Lift. The finalists have gone through the drills and made their marks but it is time to sweat blood one last time. Victor Ampofo, who came second last season, maintains his readiness for the grand finale. “I have waited for a while to win this and I am certain this year is mine. My colleagues are great at what they do, but I am not here to add to the numbers.” Speaking to 3news.com, Mustapha Ahmed, popularly called Mayweather, who has made the last three finals, says he is poised for action. “People underrate me a lot. They think I am only here for the fame, but to be honest the crowd will be surprised by my display. I will shock people on Saturday.” After weeks of being captivated by this year’s athletes, there will be a fresh champion for the competition.
