Highlife Maestro, Kojo Antwi has detailed why he does not fancy winning international awards like the Academy Awards or the BET.
According to Mr Music Man, his reason for making music did not have anything to do with snagging awards. He believed that his God-given talent was to impact humanity rather than seek external validation.
He made the submission in his latest interview with Abeiku Santana on Atuu, a magazine show on United Television.
“Grammys is in and it’s nice that some people go and win it but me as an artiste it’s not my thing,” the successful music export from Ghana explained “BET awards did a certain category that would accommodate us but the organizers are looking at the commercial aspect of it”.
Born Julius Kojo Antwi to a family of 13 siblings, the music virtuoso who has performed in front of several African presidents and international dignitaries was of the view that music should not be released just with the aim to win awards.
Kojo Antwi revealed that as a personal decision, he had stopped gracing award shows with his presence.
“I don’t attend the awards ceremonies because I don’t play my music to win an award and I hope people don’t misjudge me,” he added.
Adding that “God has gifted me the talent and if God gives me a new song I’ll share it with the world and that’s what I look for”.

A talented instrumentalist, the reggae, Afropop and highlife artiste has 22 albums to his credit and has received several awards including the West Africa Tourism Award, the All Africa Music Awards, Kora Award, and Our Music Award.
He also has 10 VGMA awards to his credit over the years.
“It is nice to win a Grammy and see others win but me as an artiste, it is not my thing,” he concluded.
Kojo Antwi’s comments have quashed the dreams of his fans and other Ghanaians who would have loved to see him become Ghana’s first Grammy-winning act.
