VGMA New Artiste of the Year: New ‘kids’ relish taking home the award

The year 2017 through to 2018 has seen the introduction of many new artistes onto the Ghanaian music scene. From the likes of Kuami Eugene who had his musical breakthrough after performing on the VGMA stage last year after emerging the Unsung Artiste of the year, through to KiDi, King Promise among others; these guys have been releasing back to back hits from 2017. Most of the hit songs on radio, television and even played at events are songs from these new artistes. Talk of Kuami Eugene’s Angela and Confusion right through to KiDi’s Odo and his latest Adiepena, King Promise’s Selfish among others; these songs have had massive airplay in Ghana. There was no major event during the Christmas season that failed to have these new acts on the bill. With just three days to the 19th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, many are wondering which of the acts is going to pick the award for the New Artiste category. KiDi, Kuami Eugene, King Promise, Magnom, B4Bonah, Kurl Songz and Kwesi Arthur have made it to the New Artiste of the year category. Most of the new acts who spoke to 3news.com believe they all deserve to be in the category and eventually emerge winners. “All these guys have honestly done a good job just like me, may the best person win”, King Promise noted. Music Producer turned artiste, Magnom also believes artiste in the category deserves to win although he strongly believes he will emerge tops. Odo crooner KiDi said “Ideally, I would like to win everything but realistically, everybody there deserves something. 2017 has been an amazing year for music, and everybody brought their A game.” All seven artistes in the New Artiste category have had one hit song or more; from B4Bonah’s ‘Dear God’, to Magnom’s ‘Baby’, Kwesi Arthur’s ‘Grind Day’, ‘Kurl Songz’s ‘Grind day’, KiDi’s Odo and Kuami Eugene’s ‘Angela’ among others, these artistes have had a great take-of in their music career. As the clock ticks for the 19th Vodafone Ghana awards, fans and music enthusiasts wait to see who among their favourites bags the awards for the New Artiste category. The 19th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards comes off this Saturday April, 14 at the Accra International Conference Center, and would be live on TV3 and all its online platforms.
