There were tears of joy in the studios of Onua TV as the four winners of the first ever edition of Onua TV & Onua FM Valentine Awareso Promotion stormed the studio to receive their awards.

The first winner, Afua Kwakyewaa, 44, shed tears after receiving the award of a microwave.

Prior to the event, which precedes the official Valentine Day on Sunday, February 14, couples were asked to phone in to various programmes of the two stations and share their marriage challenges and how they resolved them amicably.

The phone-in on both radio and TV were compiled and the best four were selected for the awards, which were presented on Friday, February 12.

Even though this year’s Valentine’s Day falls on Sunday, the two Media General Akan stations decided to present the awards live on both stations on Friday since Sunday is not an official working day.

The live event began with sweet Akapela melodies from sensational highlife artiste, Kumi Guitar, who gave a rendition of love songs to usher in the ceremony live on TV and radio.

The two female presenters of Onua TV’s Maakye, Afia Tagor and Adwoa Konadu-Yiadom, were joined Onua FM’s mid-morning and Onua TV’s Nkokonsa Headquarters presenter, A J Poundz and Onua FM’s Drive Time presenter, Dr. Prekesse.

The Founder and Head Pastor of Potters Ville Church, Bishop Sam Owusu, preaching a sermon on love, explained that “if you don’t forgive, you are not ready to live as husband and wife”.

“We should forgive as many as we can. Whoever has had a good marriage has been a master of forgiveness because there are challenges in every marriage”.

He explained that “if you have that spirit of forgiveness, you can go beyond every challenge in marriage. If someone offends you, you can even forgive the person and for the sake of the future, let us forgive”.

Bishop Owusu advised that “sacrifices are also key. If you can’t do that, it means you can’t love. The fact that you leave your parents to live with a different person means sacrifice so we should leave to appreciate that fact of sacrifice”.

“Let us forgive our wives, husbands, fiancées. We should appreciate ourselves and appreciation should not be secrets alone. We should appreciate them in secret and in public”.

Winners

In all, four winners took home various prices.

The first winner took home a brand-new microwave. She has been married for 20 years.

Her price was presented by the Sales Manager of Onua TV and Onua FM, Felix Glover.

The second winner is a 29-year-old business woman, Hawa Sulemana, who has been married for 7 years. She took home a 32-inch television.

The third winner was a 45-year-old seamstress, Gertrude Aryee, who also picked a 32-inch colour TV prize on behalf of her husband, Kwame Attah, a 65-year-old wood worker.

The last person to take home a table-top fridge was Constance Abrokwa, a 53-year-old woman who has been married for 32-years.

The event was sponsored by The Makers Company Limited, dealers of home and electrical appliances such as TV, fridges, sound systems for retail and wholesale.

The Chief Operating Officer, Akua Saah Essoun, expressed gratitude to the two stations for such an initiative.

She promised their support to the company on such initiatives and urged the public to patronize their goods in their branches such as Taifa Highway, Amasaman and Ashaiman Valco Flat.

The Head of Station for Onua TV and Onua FM, Nana Apeanti, promised such interesting promotions for its viewers and listeners.

He said the stations are not just ending the love season or month with this giveaway but more events will follow.

Nana Apeanti said on the Valentine’s Day itself, “we shall feed children on some elected streets in Accra and visit some orphanages and present them with donations”.
