Dr. Zilla Limann, the daughter of Former President Dr. Hilla Limann has bemoaned the lack of recognition attributed to his father despite his contributions to the development of the nation.

Dr. Zilla who is now the wife of musician Reggie Rockstone said his father’s records detailing his achievement as a former President were deliberately burnt by the PNDC government during the coup d’ etat.

In an interview with Blakk Rasta on 3FM, she explained that for this treacherous action by the PNDC, many of his father’s achievement are not being recognised because it’s difficult to identify them in the history books.

“When the coup d’ etat happened and the after effects of the coup d’ etat, one of the things that the PNDC government did was to consciously erase a lot of things about Dr. Hilla Limann. They erased, so literally from the bizarre burning of GBC to whatever.

“They erased everything or almost everything. So you know that you will notice that when we go back to history, it is difficult to find things about Dr. Hilla Limann. If you go back to what we studied in schools, it is always glossed over,” she said.

However, she emphasised that she is determined to create awareness about her father’s achievement and has established a foundation dedicated to propagate his father’s feat as a former president.

“Now that the Foundation has been formed and we are putting things together, that’s one of the things we want to do, to create more awareness. To get people to know more about him, about what he did and the impact he had. How he contributed to the building of our motherland today and what he probably could have done if his rule hadn’t been prematurely terminated,” she added.

Dr. Hilla Limann was elected President of the 3rd Republic in 1979 on the ticket of the People’s National Party but ruled for only three years because he was overthrown by the PNDC which was headed by the late Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings.
