Benjamin Oduro Arhin Jnr, a creative arts business and intellectual property consultant has said that the current predicament of the Musicians Union of Ghana (MUSIGA) is due to the pursuit of personal interests by some of its officials.

Benjamin Oduro Arhin Jnr, also known as Bnoskka, who is a member of MUSIGA, said this in an interview on Onua Showbiz on Onua FM.

“The main reason why we are suffering is because of the personal interests of certain people. Laws are there; they were not made to limit the freedom of humans. Humans made these laws to help everyone,” he stated.

He further mentioned that some of the court cases MUSIGA was involved in in the past were kind of genuine and needed to be addressed though the current case in court makes no sense to him.

“Some of the legal cases were very genuine and necessary like the ones on the bloated voters’ register and the signatories issue. Personally, for the third one which arose, I really do not understand why it happened,” he suggested.

Apparently, the plaintiff had given the Union a heads-up about the issue but not much was done about it.

“The person prompted the musicians’ union. I am not an executive; I am a member. This complaint came two weeks before the elections and we had a meeting a week before the elections in which the issue was raised,” he disclosed.

MUSIGA has had to postpone their elections after a court order was given following a complaint received. The plaintiffs, in their statement of claim, say the defendants have “failed to render an account of their stewardship to the Union, contrary to the requirements of the MUSIGA constitution.”
