Ghanaian Highlife and Afrobeat singer and songwriter King Promise seems to be having a good year already as he hints at a collaboration with American singer, Chance the Rapper.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Berla Mundi on TV3, the ‘Oh Yeah’ hitmaker stated that he had the opportunity to meet Chance through Vic Mensah. And even though he was out of town, they linked up when he returned.

“When Chance came, I got the phone call that we should meet. I was out of town but linked up immediately after I got back. Vic introduced me to Chance. We made a song that night, but we have a lot we are working on.”

King Promise stated that he never envisaged working with the American singer even though he has been a fan of his music and craft.

“I’m not gonna lie. I never thought I could work with him. I’m a fan of his and love his music, but I didn’t know we could meet up one day. We made some sick stuff. There are so many great prospects coming in the pipeline.”

He also revealed that the video for his latest ‘Chop Life’, which features Nigeria’s Patoranking, has been shot and will be released in a few weeks.

Speaking on his highlights in 2021, the award-winning Afrobeat artiste said winning himself a nomination for the 2021 Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards was a big achievement.
The ‘CCTV’ hitmaker was nominated for Best African Act, making him the only Ghanaian musician in the awards scheme that celebrates the best of music from Black Origin.

The Afrobeats singer registered his name and Ghana on the international music market when he performed at the O2 Arena in London for Wizkid’s show.
Again, he marked an outstanding print in Ghana with a sold-out third edition of PromiseLand Concert, which was graced with the presence of legendary musicians like Ofori Amponsah.

Speaking on his performance with Ofori Amponsah, King Promise said he had always looked up to him for personal and career inspiration.

He added, “We have a four-track EP together with Killbeatz. So it was just right for him to get on stage with me. It was an amazing experience.”

According to King Promise, he sees himself as a bridge between old school and new school musicians. And that explains his collaboration with Ofori Amponsah.
Not only has he been collaborating with Ghanaian acts, but he has also established contact with well doing global musicians like Wizkid, Mr Eazi, Vic Mensah, Chance the Rapper and others.

The prolific Afrobeat singer admitted that he has learnt a lot from these hugely successful global artists and how they go about their music business.

“They make music beautiful. It’s a lot of hard work. Behind the scenes, it might look very glamorous, but it’s a lot of hard work and perseverance. That’s how my album went Number one. These are things I learnt from these guys.”

King Promise has released his latest intriguing song titled ‘Chop Life’, which features Nigeria’s Patoranking and is available on all streaming platforms.
