Ghanaian gospel artistes accused of hypocrisy

Jayana[/caption] A Ghanaian gospel artiste with Dave Joy Record label, Jayana, has descended heavily on colleague gospel artistes in the country, describing them as “hypocrites”. She also referred to them as “quacks”, “bootlickers” and “cynical people”, whose actions and inactions, she claims, have contributed largely to the retarded growth of the genre. Speaking in a interview with Maxwell Otoo on Onua FM’s Sunday Gospel morning show, Onua Asorefie, Jayana observed the hypocrisy of gospel artistes is what has dented the image of the industry, despite what she described as, laudable and collective efforts made by some gospel stars. The fast-emerging gospel artiste, who is also a daughter of the late founder and presiding bishop of Christian Praise International Center (CPIC) Bishop Dr Annor Yeboah and a product of Stars of the Future, was livid at how some known gospel musicians have denigrated her after releasing her first single with Joyce Blessing. According to her, even though her song is doing well, some respectable gospel artistes reach out to her ostensibly to belittle her talent. “Even though my first single is making waves across the world through the media, I do receive strange calls from well-known gospel artistes who seek to discourage and belittle my career,” she said in Akan. “A certain gospel musician I had admired so much since the beginning of my career just called me on phone and asked me to relent on my calling in view of the fact that my song isn’t spirit-filled,” she added. “Can you imagine a gospel artiste who is supposed to inspire and motivate me called and wanted me to quit singing?” she quizzed. Jayana, however, noted that the cold attitude of her colleagues will not scare or restrain her, but will rather cheer her up to fight harder to reach the top.
