After enthrilling Ghanaians with a memorable experience back in 2022, Global Citizen has returned this year with a new initiative dubbed “Move Afrika: A Global Citizen Experience tour in 2024.”
The international advocacy organisation in a post on X, said the event will be hosted in Accra- Ghana and Kigali, Rwanda.
President Nana Akufo-Addo and PGLang, an American creative imprint are collaborators of Move Afrika 2024.
“I am excited to announce that later this year, Global Citizen will return to Ghana with Move Afrika: Ghana. Global Citizen is known for leveraging live music events to engage youth while creating social and economic impact.
“We are delighted to join Rwanda in becoming the next destination for Global Citizen’s multi-year, multi-market pan-African tour and expect continued impact in the years ahead. Today, we celebrate this milestone for Ghana. We look forward to future announcements on this growing cohort of Move Afrika destinations,” the president noted.
Move Afrika a long-term effort to pioneer a first-of-its-kind international music tour across Africa which seeks to drive economic investment in the Ghanaian entertainment industry, Ghanaian-owned businesses and young entrepreneurs.
The inaugural Move Afrika event was held in Kigali, Rwanda in December 2023 and signalled the launch of an annual, multi-country tour, changing the face of live entertainment in Africa and investing in local economies, skill training and youth entrepreneurship along the way.
According to Global Citizen, additional countries will be added to the Move Afrika tour schedule each year which aims to expand to three countries in 2024, and five countries by 2025.
“We visited Accra for the first time in 2022 and really connected with the people and the culture. Accra will always be a special place for us and we are excited to work with Move Afrika and expand our efforts to Ghana,” PGLang noted.
Move Afrika is a long-term effort to pioneer a first-of-its-kind international music tour across Africa, driving economic investment, job creation, and supporting entrepreneurship opportunities in each host country.
Global Citizen said further details of this year’s Move Afrika including event dates and line ups, will be announced in the coming months.
Ghana’s first Global Citizen festival was first organised at the Black Star Square in Accra on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
The event saw great performances from Ghanaian artistes Sarkodie, Stonebwoy, Yaw Tog, Kwesi Arthur and Gyakie and American artistes Usher and SZA, as well as British musician Stormzy and Nigerian singer Tems.
