Sing-a-thon: I have requested for further details of my disqualification – Afua Asantewaa

Ghanaian event organizer, Afua Asantewaa Aduonum whose Sing-a-thon turned out unsuccessful has sought further details of her disqualification from the Guinness World Record.

In a statement expressing gratitude to Ghanaians for their support, Afua Asantewaa said her decision to seek further details is to enable her “pick up learnings for the future.”

According to her, although she did not expect the outcome of her record attempt, she is contempt with the results.

“The outcome of the attempt following the announcement by GWR is not what I expected, nonetheless, I have accepted it and have requested GWR to provide more details.

“I appreciate the commendations, feedback, and criticisms from a section of the public who felt disappointed with the outcome,” excerpts of her statement read.

“I wish to express profound gratitude to the people of Ghana and various stakeholders for your immense support throughout my Sing-a-thon journey,” Afua expressed her gratitude to Ghanaians.

Afua Asantewaa added that the media misrepresented some reports about her record attempt regardless she “takes them in stride” stressing they will “serve as a learning curve” for her personal development.

“I am eternally grateful to all persons, who supported my mission to promote Ghanaian music through my attempt to break and set a new record for the longest singing marathon in the Guinness World Records,” Afua Asantewaa noted.

The GWR on February 22 in a tweet announced that Afua Asantewaa’s record attempt was unsuccessful.

The GWR said “unfortunately, Afua’s Guinness World Record attempt for the longest singing marathon was not successful but we hope that she will make another attempt soon.”

The GWR also noted that the evidence check already begun before Afua requested priority service hence her earlier payment has been refunded.

Afua Asantewaa in responding to the GWR’s announcement said “the news of the outcome of my Sing-a-thon attempt came few minutes as I was preparing to host a gala dinner and the launch of the Lebanese Scholarship Alumni Network attended by the President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. I would announce my next line of action in few days. Thank you all for your love and support.”

Afua Asantewaa completed her singing marathon at 126 hours and 52 minutes on December 29, 2023 aiming to break the current record by Sunil Waghmare, an Indian who sang for 105 hours in 2012.
