Ghanaian musician Epixode has always been associated with the reggae/dancehall genre until he blew our minds with ‘Atia’. Which has left many wondering – what if Epixode is a highlife musician? Are we going to be choked with countless delicious masterpieces?
‘Atia’ is a great song. In fact, it’s the chef-d’oeuvre of all of Epixode’s songs. So, why has he hidden such rare talent from us? Perhaps, growing up listening to songs from the likes of Gramps Morgan, Beenie man and Sizzla, made young Epixode feel reggae was his forte.
Honestly, ‘Atia’ leaves us imaging what more authentic highlife sounds and lyrics we can wring out of him. Epixode’s mother and twin sister’s history with the Ga traditional music group, Wulomei and Kalifi, points out that he is genetically dispositioned to make original Ghanaian music.
Just look at the #Atiachallenges curiously unearthing amazing talents across the country. Participant voices and renditions of the Atia are simply captivating.
Theophilus Nii Arday Otoo, known in showbiz circles as Epixode, was born on the 16th of March. He won his first contest in 2011 as the dancehall king. Knowing what we know now, bet he could have easily picked the highlife king title too. Epixode signed his first professional contract with Global One Entertainment in 2013, followed by his first hit single ‘Tun up”. In 2021, he won VGMA’s Reggae/ Dancehall Artiste of the Year.
Epixode has other songs, including ‘Faya’ with Keche, ‘Odeshi’, ‘Wahala Dey’, ‘Mini Woa’ and ‘Dear Mama’.
