A heated Sister Derby did not mince words as she dragged MP for Ningo-Prampram, Sam George, for pushing the anti-LGBT+ agenda.

Earlier on, Hon. Sam George tweeted that nothing can stop parliament from passing the ‘controversial’ bill. He wrote, “I have seen the attacks from a few goons aligned to a political inclination based on my leadership on the PMB against LGBTQI+ in Ghana. Bow your heads in shame. Nothing would stand in our way to get this bill passed by the House. Take your perversion, and let me speak my truth!

“I have been overwhelmed by the massive support even here on a very ‘liberal’ platform like Twitter for our Bill on the LGBTQI+ menace. Homosexuality is NOT a human right. It is a sexual preference. Preferences are not absolute or unregulated. We SHALL pass this Bill through,” he continued.

These declarations did not sit well with Sister Derby, a known advocate of LGBT+ rights in Ghana. She called out the member of parliament for pushing an agenda that threatens the lives of other people.

According to Deborah Owusu-Bonsu, known as Sister Derby in the entertainment circles, all this rampage by Sam Goerge is just to score cheap political points. She wrote, “You are only doing this to score political points, forgetting the harm you are causing queer folk. Tell us what else you will personally gain from passing this bill if not political points??? Shame on you!”

She also accused the MP of being “obsessed with peoples sexual orientation” and tagged him as a pervert and backward thinker.

Sam George and other members of parliament submitted a copy of the ‘contentious anti-gay’ bill to the speaker Alban Bagbin on June 29, 2021.

A part of the bill reads: “A person who, by use of media, technological platform, technological account or any other means, produces, procures, markets, broadcasts, disseminates, publishes or distributes a material for purposes of promoting an activity prohibited under the Bill, or a person uses an electronic device, the Internet service, a film, or any other device capable of electronic storage or transmission to produce, procure, market, broadcast, disseminate, publishes or distribute a material for purposes of promoting an activity prohibited under the Bill commits an offence and is liable on summary conviction to a term of imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than ten years.”

This has started a conversation about the severity of its scope violating the rights of queer people.
